Raku Workshop

£45.00

An exciting opportunity to take part in a raku firing.

Running on October 21st, 10am – 4pm, in the endlessly interesting landscape of a disused China clay pit.

You will learn about, and experiment with the raku process, from glazing, operating the kiln and taking your pots out to see the exciting results, with the guidance of our resident ceramic artists and Julian De Courcy.

As part of the workshop price you will receive 1kg of Ashraf Hanna, available at the studio, to make your pots in the weeks leading up to the firing.

Each participant should expect one piece fired with the possibility of more, time permitting. Your works should be no larger than a mug to ensure space for everyone’s work.

Alternatively if you aren’t confident in the making process but still want to take part, there will be some pots available to choose from. All work needs to be bisque fired prior to the event. You can drop off your work with Flookan by the 7th of October to ensure they will be fired.

There will be a limited glaze selection and materials for naked raku (pots for naked raku will have best results when burnished.)

Raku does not produce watertight or foods are pots so all work should be considered decorative and sculptural only. Due to the nature of the process participants should be 18+
Please ensure you wear warm layers and bring with you lunch and drinks.
Directions will he sent once booking is complete.

Do come by the studio for more information should you need it and we look forward to the fun of an outdoor firing.
